READER BEWARE – THIS IS BLOG POST IS NOT G RATED. PERTAINS TO FEMININE HYGIENE.
****************************************************************************************
In an earlier post I discussed the use of paper, plastic and recycled grocery bags; this post is not about grocery bags, I’m discussing the use of plastic or cardboard feminine hygiene applicators. Yes, somewhat embarrassing, but it needs to be addressed.
After reading about the excessive use of plastic applicators and the waste they create, I wrote to one well-known company who uses the plastic applicators for all they feminine hygiene products. I received no reply. I also observed first hand the excessive waste these applicators create when I walked the beaches in southern Virginia. Obviously, they weren’t new pink or white applicators, but nonetheless they were strewn all along Virginia Beach and other smaller seaside beaches. Ugh! Gross!
I decided if I coudn’t convince one company to change their product lines, then I would make the change myself. What did I do, you ask? Well, I’m not contributing to the plastic waste anymore. I also recycle the box they come in.
You should too (if you’re female).
Write the companies that use these non-recyclable plastic applicator tips and demand that they stop polluting our oceans and beaches, and change their products to become more eco-friendly!
By the way, I did see eco-friendly feminine hygiene products at the health store; however, they were twice the price I normally pay for such products. There is a price to pay to keep our oceans and land trash-free!
